BYD Creates the Fastest Car on the Planet

BYD Auto is a Chinese vehicle manufacturer known for bursting into the EV market in 2023 with a host of impressive offerings. Since then their fleshed out range of cars playfully named after aquatic animals feature models such as the BYD Dolphin, the BYD Sealion, and the BYD Seal.

BYD are most famous for being an affordable manufacturer, whilst offering impressive performance and technology compared to other brands with similar offerings. Now, BYD are breaking ground again in a different way, by creating the world's fastest production car.

A Record Breaking Car

With most of their popularity forming from affordable vehicles, it might be a surprise to hear that BYD also create supercars, let alone create the fastest car in the world, beating the previous record holder, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.

BYD Auto has a luxury car brand, called Yangwang, in which their U9 Xtreme achieved an eye-watering 308.33 miles per hour, which, to put into perspective, is fast enough to drive from Birmingham to Leeds in around 25 minutes (assuming there's no traffic, of course).

The previous record holder, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, achieved their own record of 304.773 miles per hour back in 2021, whilst the Yangwang U9 Xtreme only surpassed this record by 3.5 miles per hour, it is still a remarkable feat.

This changes the BYD brand from being 'just another affordable EV company' into a serious vehicle powerhouse, with incredible research and engineering teams behind them that truly know how to push cars into the next generation.

Under The Hood

Powering the Yangwang U9 Xtreme is a remarkable quad-motor set up, with each individual electric motor bringing 240kW of power output each, providing a total power output of 960kW (1,290HP). With this being powered by an 80kWh battery, giving it a maximum range of 280 miles. Even more impressive is BYD's reported 0-62mph time of just 2.36. seconds and a 1/4 mile drag race time of just 9.78 seconds.

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme also offers up to 500kW DC charging, allowing it to charge from 30% to 80% in only 10 minutes.
